Office of Planning and Analysis was created with a focus on creating standard descriptive reports, conducting peer studies and administrative surveys, and providing input on institutional planning.

Office Renamed & New Position Added
By the end of the 1980s, the office was renamed Institutional Research and Planning and an Assitant Director for Institutional Research was created.

Director Reclassified
Director position was reclassified to Assistant Vice President for Planning & Administration and continued to serve as the Director of Institutional Research and Planning.

Renamed to Quality & Planning
Office was renamed to Quality & Planning. Assistant Vice President was reclassified as Associate Vice President. Assistant Director for Institutional Research was reclassified as Director of Institutional Research.

The office was renamed Institutional Effectiveness and moved as a unit from the President’s Office to the Academic Affairs. Assessment Duties Split
Assessment duties were split into Academic and University areas. Faculty Advancement became Academic Development & Assessment. Planning became University Planning & Assessment. Each with their own director.

An Associated Director of Institutional Research position was created and assigned institutional research duties for the TSUS office in addition to duties at Texas State.

Academic Development was moved from Institutional Effectiveness to the Associate Provost. Academic Assessment duties were brought under University Planning and Assessment. The Director of Institutional Research was reclassified as Assistant Vice President for Institutional Research. The Associate Director was reclassified as Director of Institutional Research but maintained duties for both Texas State and the TSUS office.

The Director of University Planning and Assessment retired. A new Director of Assessment was hired along with a Planning Coordinator. The Assistant Vice President for Institutional Research was assigned the duties of Chief Data Management Officer.

Institutional Effectiveness, including Institutional Research, Planning, and University Assessment, were moved to the Office of the President. Academic Assessment remained under the Provost in Academic Affairs.
